More Detailed Information
How the NHA Emergency Alarm Responds
Built on 4G, 4GX and GPS connectivity, the NHA Emergency Alarm keeps working wherever there's mobile coverage — a genuine advantage over older 3G-only devices being phased out across Australia. It's waterproof and lightweight, worn on a lanyard or clipped discreetly to clothing.
Pressing SOS, or an automatically detected fall, triggers calls to up to 8 saved contacts and an SMS to up to 4 of them — all set up by us before it ships. That text carries the time, date, the wearer's name and a live GPS map link, so anyone responding knows exactly where to go. The device dials down its contact list in the order you've chosen, and won't stop trying until somebody picks up. Once connected, the built-in speaker and microphone allow full two-way conversation, hands-free.
Landing on voicemail doesn't slow it down — it hangs up automatically and tries the next number straight away. And if the alarm goes off by mistake, pressing SOS again cancels it instantly, no screen or menu required.
Core Features at a Glance
We're the national distributor for this hardware, and our firmware is custom-built for it — it behaves differently to generic or rebranded versions of the same device sold elsewhere.
- SOS button — a 10-beep countdown gives you time to cancel a false trigger. Alarm also has voice prompts, which means it tells you the alarm has been triggered out loud and tells you how to cancel it
- Automatic fall detection — sensitivity can be adjusted to best suit the user, same 10-second cancel window with voice prompts
- GPS tracking — saved contacts can check the wearer's location any time, not just in an emergency
- Calls and SMS together — every emergency event triggers both, reaching up to 8 people
- Speed dial — 2 contacts can be quick-dialled outside of an emergency
- Inbound calling — set to auto-answer after 3 rings, or require a button press
- Low battery alert Device says clearly battery is low and to please charge. We can also set battery low or battery full alerts to the contacts if desired at a level you choose
Standard vs Duress Firmware
Every unit is built on one of two firmware options, chosen at the time of order to suit how it'll actually be used.
Both firmware versions run on identical hardware, so switching between how the alarm is used doesn't mean switching devices.
Why Duress Firmware Matters
A device that beeps loudly or announces itself out loud can put someone at greater risk in a duress situation, not less — the whole point is being able to call for help without an aggressor knowing it's happened. Duress firmware removes every audible cue while keeping the same underlying protection:
- Contacts can listen in live during an emergency, with nothing on the device giving it away
- GPS location is still sent automatically, exactly as it is on standard firmware
- The screen-free, low-profile design means there's nothing visual to notice either
- Works equally well for lone workers who need a quiet way to raise an alert on the job
If this sounds like the right fit, mention it when ordering and our team will arrange it for you.
Extra Capabilities Added to Recent Models
A handful of features are unique to NHA-branded units and aren't found on generic versions of the same hardware:
- Spoken voice guidance — available in English or another language on request (standard firmware only)
- Medication reminders — a daily prompt set directly on the device
- Wake-up alarm — an optional daily alert
- Automatic time zone updates — no manual resetting when travelling or for daylight saving
- Faster emergency calling — skips the usual cancellation delay entirely
- Power-off notification — your primary contact is told immediately if the device is switched off, and why
Colours & What's in the Box
Stealth Black — a fully blacked-out finish designed to sit unnoticed on a keychain, in a pocket, or clipped inside a bag. Built for anyone who values discretion as much as protection.
Black & Red — a bolder look with a bright red SOS button, easy to identify at a glance and unlike anything else in the range.
Every order ships complete with the alarm itself, a short lanyard and a long lanyard (the longer option is suited to anyone wearing the device over a pacemaker), and a charging pack — all fully set up before it leaves us. A belt/clothing clip and a shower bag (for use with detergents or soaps) are both available as optional extras, not included by default.
SIM & Network Options
NHA on Telstra. Fully managed on our end, running on 100% Telstra coverage — Australia's widest network — so there's no SIM top-up to remember. Your purchase price covers the first 12 months of unlimited emergency use; renewal after that runs $90 per year on direct debit.
NHA on Optus. The same fully managed, unlimited-use setup on the Optus network, renewing at $110 per year on direct debit after your included first year.
Bring your own SIM. Prefer to manage your own plan? This option is discounted $20 off the standard price — we'll supply a screwdriver so you can fit it yourself. Telstra-based SIMs are recommended; Vodafone isn't compatible.
Taking It Overseas
This alarm only works in Australia or New Zealand (BYO SIM required for NZ).
If you require a model that works overseas, you must request it from us. Coverage extends to most major destinations, including the UK, USA, India and Italy.
4G, 3G and 5G — What's the Difference?
These are simply the generations of mobile network technology. 4G is currently the standard every emergency device should run on, since 3G has already been switched off across Australia. Expect 4G to remain the primary network for the next decade or more, even as 5G rolls out further. Depending on which SIM is fitted, this device runs on 4G, 4G+ or 4GX, and can still connect to 3G towers in countries where that network is still active. It was among the first genuinely 4G-capable medical alarms on the market, since upgraded again to support 4GX.
Self-Monitored or Professionally Monitored
Self-Monitored (included in the purchase price). You choose up to 8 contacts — family, friends, or 000 directly — and the device calls and texts them the moment SOS or fall detection triggers. It recognises voicemail automatically and moves straight to the next contact rather than waiting, and will keep cycling through the list until someone answers.
Professionally Monitored. Route the alarm instead to our ASIAL-accredited monitoring centre, staffed 24/7 by trained operators who can dispatch help immediately. The centre keeps relevant details on file — medical history, property access notes, and key safe codes — so responders aren't starting from zero.
Australian Certification
Electronic and medical alarm devices sold in Australia must meet strict local compliance standards. We partnered with a NSW-based RCM testing laboratory over several months to certify this device, and it passed comfortably. The same unit also meets approval requirements in the UK, USA and across Europe.

What's the difference between standard and duress firmware?
Standard firmware speaks and beeps to confirm what's happening — reassuring for most users. Duress firmware strips all of that out so the device operates in total silence, built for domestic violence or personal safety situations where discretion matters most. It's arranged directly with our team rather than toggled by the customer.
Can this help with lone worker safety?
Yes — its small, screen-free design and GPS tracking suit lone or remote workers well, and duress firmware gives an extra option for anyone needing to raise an alert without drawing attention.
Can I supply my own SIM?
Yes — choosing BYO SIM takes $20 off the standard price, and we include a screwdriver so you can fit it yourself. Telstra-based SIMs work best; Vodafone isn't supported.
Will it work while I'm travelling overseas?
Yes, via roaming, across most major destinations including the UK, USA, India and Italy. Telstra SIM customers should call ahead so we can activate roaming before departure.
What happens if a contact doesn't pick up?
Voicemail is detected automatically and skipped — the device moves straight to the next contact on the list rather than sitting on hold.
Is this device certified for use in Australia?
Yes, fully RCM certified following extensive testing with a NSW-based laboratory, and also compliant for use in the UK, USA and Europe.
Can 000 be one of my contacts?
Yes — under Self-Monitored mode you can include 000 (Emergency Services) as one of your up to 8 saved contacts.
Do I need to manage SIM top-ups myself?
Not with NHA on Telstra or NHA on Optus — both are fully managed by us, so coverage never lapses because of a missed top-up.
Doctors, Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Plan Managers, Aged Care Providers, and health industry workers recommend our products across Australia.
